George L. Cobb

Composer George L. Cobb was born in 1886. It is claimed that Cobb's most famous single work is the novelty piece "The Russian Rag", based on the opening chord progression of Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C# Minor". However, Cobb is best remembered now for the wealth of mainstream dixieland and ragtime songs that he left.

Cobb was a bit more erudite than some of his Tin Pan Alley colleagues. He attended the School of Harmony and Composition at Syracuse University in 1905. As a working songwriter, he also found time to write critically.

Cobb died of coronary thrombosis in 1942.

Cobb's songs can make your brass quintet sound very reminiscent of a traditional Dixieland band. These songs fit will in outdoor or informal indoor concerts. Toot Suite Brass Publishing is pleased to make the following arrangements available at Sheet Music Plus.
